HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

My mother is 97 years young. Despite a confrontational marriage she always had a smile on her face. Who ever said stress shortens your life is totally wrong. My father was verbally abusive to my mom. They were married for 73 years. The last 10 were very difficult for her but she stood by his side and took care of him when he was sick. When he passed away my brother and I insisted she had to move either to Houston where my brother lives or Jacksonville where I live. Since she lived in South Florida it was easier for her to move north to Jacksonville. I am happy to say she is absolutely loving Jacksonville. She has made friends where she lives and enjoys everything they have to offer. Mom has Macular Degeneration (eventually this causes blindness). Is very difficult for her to see she mostly sees outlines not fine details. She gets her eye shots every few months. During all this she still has a smile on her face. She is 5 feet tall and weighs just over 100 pounds. For such a tiny lady she sure can be stubborn. I guess thats where I get it from. To get her to move it was like pulling teeth. I had to pull out all the punches. But in the end she finally did it. She is a very brave lady. For Mothers Day she wanted to go to the Jacksonville zoo. I was able to

get a wheel chair from the retirement community she is at and off we went with my husband. I have never been to the Jacksonville Zoo. I was very impressed! My mom loved it. Her highlight was feeding the Giraffes! I have to admit that was kinda cool. The smile on her face was so worth it! All in all it was a wonderful day. I hope everyone gets to have at least one great Mothers Day they wont forget. I know I wont forget this one. Mom your my hero!
